Crossings – Your Partner in Integrative Health Care
Crossings has served the Silver Spring community with complementary health care since 1992. Our Center has been intentionally formed to provide for the professional development and ongoing creation of the art and science of healing. Many of us are pioneers in the field of complementary medicine and wellness care as originators, theorists, teachers and clinicians. We share a common philosophy around the keys to health, wellness and patient care. Importantly, for you the medical professional, we understand that conventional and complementary care are interlocking hands that together support the whole person in becoming well.
Over the past decade, complementary medicine has gained in popularity and usage. A 2007 NCCAM report showed that 38% of all adults and 12% of children use some form of CAM (http:/nccam.nih.gov/sews/camstats/2007/cansurvey fs1.htm). In addition, wellness care has been well documented as an efficacious approach in creating improved health outcomes, particularly for patients suffering with chronic conditions and for patients whose symptom complex doesn’t lead to a firm diagnosis. A study released by the Milken Institute in early October 2007 concluded that reorienting our health system toward preventing rather than treating disease could stave off 40 million cases of cancer, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses during the next fifteen years (US News and World Report, Nov. 5, 2007).
We believe that one of the main reasons for our success at Crossings is that the lens through which we assess a patient complements the conventional one, enabling us to see interrelationships- among organs and emotions; fascia and structure; lifestyle and attitude – and the mutual role these play in sustaining illness and minimizing quality of life.
As more patients seek complementary care as part of their search for optimal health, Crossings is a resource of seasoned and credentialed professionals, which can work with you collaboratively.
