Ruth Anne is a massage therapist and Alexander Technique teacher and sees herself as a facilitator of healing, offering both hands-on work and body learning with her presence, compassion, experience, wisdom, and other resources (such as referrals) to her clients. She is a licensed massage therapist in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association and Alexander Technique International .
She uses Swedish, Deep Tissue, Connective Tissue, and Esalen massage, as well as Craniosacral therapy and aromatherapy to encourage relaxation, relieve stress, and to treat both acute and chronic injuries. She graduated from the Potomac Massage Training Institute in 1999, and is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB).
As an Alexander Technique teacher, she offers one-on-one private lessons to teach the principles of mind-body coordination – specifically how to think mindfully and move naturally, creating more ease and less effort in all areas of one’s life. She incorporates these principles into her work as a massage therapist. She believes her work as a massage therapist informs her work as an Alexander teacher on a number of levels. She is a 2010 graduate of the Chesapeake Bay Alexander Technique Teacher Training program in Greensboro, NC .
Ruth Anne has a BA in Biology and Environmental Studies from Oberlin College, and has worked for over 10 years in the environmental field. She sees her work as a massage therapist and Alexander Technique teacher as a continuation of her passion for environmental issues – still working toward healing the planet, but now person-by-person. She is a student of mindfulness meditation, yoga, and various types of dance, as well as an avid cyclist, hiker, ice skater, and swimmer.
