Beyond Me – Opening to the Healing Prsence of Being

Instructor: Donovan and Susan Thesenga

Date: Saturday, May 30

Time: 9:30 am – 4:30 pm

Cost: $75 (To Register, send a check payable to Donovan Thesenga, 299 Pathwork Way, Madison, VA 22727. You may send the full amount of $75, or a deposit of $20. If you have questions, email soulwork@wildblue.net

Course Description:
Eckhart Tolle speaks of the realm of Being. He demonstrates that much of the anxiety and fear that so many people now experience is largely because they do not ever spend enough time in touch with Being. As he says, our attention is so filled with all of the rapid changes in our world, we seldom or never are in contact with the eternal and the changeless.

Let us introduce you to Natural Awareness, a wonderful non-method for experiencing the Presence of Being that is, in fact, always and already here. We will learn to turn our attention to the background awareness that is behind all action, thought, and feeling. Once in touch with this, we can learn to rest in the realm of Being.

We will also, later in the day, provide some experiences of a new mode of emotional process work that we are now perfecting. We are calling it Questioning Beliefs. This emotional work dovetails beautifully with the practice of Natural Awareness.
Instructor Bio:
Susan and Donovan Thesenga have been psychotherapists and spiritual teachers for forty years. They have published three books describing their work – The Undefended Self; Fear No Evil; and Surrender to God Within. They founded Sevenoaks Center in 1972, and they have led workshops and trainings for therapists in may locations in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. Spirit is now moving them to foster experiences of Being and to provide a space in which awakening may occur.

Qigong - Five Animal Frolic

Instructors: Yinong Chong, Ph.D. & Shawn Cartwright, Traditional Chinese Culture Institute

Date:Saturday, August 8

Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Cost: $55 early registration (2 week prior), $70 after

Course Description:
The Five Animal Frolics, also called the Five Animal Form, or Five Animal Play, are graceful exercises modeled after the Tiger, Deer, Monkey, Bear, and Crane. It was created by Hua Tuo (110-207 AD), an extraordinary healer who is often considered "the father of Chinese Medicine". It is the most ancient Qigong exercises still practiced today by millions of people, and one of oldest continuously practiced healing exercises in the world.

The Hua Tuo system of Five Animals is practiced through simple forms of movements, meditation and spontaneous play of the animals. They are a complete and integrated Qigong system that develops strength, grace, flexibility, balance, and an abundance of healing Qi. The Five Animal Frolics are considered medical Qigong because they can be used to cultivate and circulate the Qi for healing purpose. Internally the practice opens the Qi channels and cultivates Jing (sexual essence), Qi (vital energy) and Shen (spirit). Externally it improves the function of bones, joints, tendons, muscles, circulation, eyes, hair and skin. They are also considered martial Qigong because various martial forms such as Crane or Tiger palms originated from them. They become spiritual Qigong as we reach connection and harmony with the nature and spirits represented by the animals through practice. Practicing the Five Animal Qi Gong brings out childlike innocence and care-free human nature. In the end, we are not just imitating the animals – we become one with their wonderful spirits.

You will learn the Five Animal Frolics forms and the inner workings of the medical Qigong principles and the Taoist alchemy. The essence of the five animals will become alive in you. You will feel the energy and spirits of these animals soaring through your body, your meridian channels, and your whole being.

The series will provide step-by-step instructions on the entire exercise. The exercise is suitable for all ages and experience levels.

How We Teach
All workshops are open to students of all levels. At each class, we work on classic Tai Chi and Qigong exercises designed to build a solid foundation and improve Qi flow. Cost: $205

Course Description:
T’ai Chi is a series of 37 gentle, flowing movements that have been practiced as a health exercise for centuries. As a "moving meditation" T’ai Chi teaches relaxation in the midst of activity. People are frequently confronted verbally and emotionally by the pressures of daily living. Learning to stay centered and calm in the normal activities of life reduces tension, increases energy and allows us to develop the skills needed in more acute circumstances. "Sensing Hands" or "Tui Shou", allows further development of these skills, as well as a deeper understanding of the functional applications of T’ai Chi form. New students are welcome to join, but must first talk with the instructor.

Instructor Bio:
Cloud Hands T’ai Chi instructor, Michael Ward, LCSW, is a senior student of Robert Smith, the first western student of Professor Cheng Man-ch’ing, a renowned master of T’ai Chi Chuan. Mr. Ward has been studying and practicing Professor Cheng’s Yang style of T’ai Chi for more than 25 years. Mr. Ward’s background as a licensed clinical social worker, who has worked with children, youth and families in wellness programs, provides unique insight into both the challenges and the value of “slowing down" in our fast paced society.
