Prenatal Wellness at Crossings

At Crossings you can find a range of Prenatal Health Care services that address fertility and promote a healthy pregnancy by supporting natural processes. These services include:

Osteopathy in Prenatal Health

Dr. Christina Steele

Prenatal – Osteopath’s are physicians who use manipulation to help the body connect with its ability to heal and to restore functional motion. In a woman’s life, this can be very helpful in prenatal care. An osteopath can gently assess movement and encourage the resolution of normal motion. This environment creates a wonderful time when old injuries or restrictions are suddenly more accessible for healing.

Labor and Delivery – As the baby’s head engages the pelvis, the sacrum must be freely mobile to accommodate motions of delivery. An osteopathic physician usually would see their patient midway through pregnancy, and at the 37th week to ensure that the sacrum can facilitate the delivery process. If a patient is symptomatic, we will often see that patient earlier. This sacral mobility often facilitates the natural birth process.

Acupuncture in Prenatal Health

Gillian Powers, M.Ac. Jane Grissmer, M.Ac.

Achieving balance in our energy flows improves female and male fertility by increasing blood flow (nourishing the uterus and ovaries, and improving sperm morphology and motility), improving fluids (increasing cervical fluids and sperm quantity), and reducing stress hormones and anxiety levels. It is also an integral part of healthcare throughout pregnancy to support mother and baby’s optimal health, thereby easing many of the typical discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, constipation, insomnia, muscle cramps and musculoskeletal discomfort as the body grows and supports the fetus.

Massage in Prenatal Health

Holly Markush, MS.T, Lucia Mercer, LMT, NCTMB

Touch, through Massage, is especially beneficial to mother and fetal health. It eases the musculoskeletal strain that may arise from carrying a baby such as low back discomfort to sciatic nerve involvement. And always, it enhances an overall feeling of relaxation and the joy of being more in tune with one’s body and one’s growing baby through the many changes of pregnancy.
